I AM ALIVE!

Where Decca Tenderstone lives she is considered a monster, the lowest rank in Faya, where teenagers are ranked on a scale from one to ten on their sixteenth birthday. There's never been a Ten., but Six and above are permitted to live and grow up into adulthood. Five and below become monsters and are brutally killed for entertainment by the Summit. Period.

But Decca is different. She refuses to give in.

And when she meets the mysterious Leo Van Ark, who, in spite of being a Nine, is also hunted by Summit, she has a stronger reason to survive.

Will Decca and Leo ever make it, though no monster has ever survived? Will Leo open up to get and tell her about his secret? Will they change the world together? And most important of all, could Decca become the first Ten in Faya ever?

I Am Alive Born This Way 1 eBook Cameron Jace

'I Am Alive' is the first book in a young adult dystopian series that follows leading lady, Decca Tenderstone, as she navigates the futuristic and deadly Los Angeles - a place where teens are now ranked on a scale of one to ten in order to determine their future. When the unbelievable happens - Decca is deemed an Outrank - she must participate in the Monster Show, where a broadcasted sacrificial ritual occurs on live TV. The teens who must participate in the show are labelled as Monsters or Bad Kidz and then have to fight each other to survive. Every six hours, you must scream I AM ALIVE. If you don't do it - or don't scream loud enough - you die. Decca must hurriedly learn why she wasn't placed in the ranks and Leo - the beautiful yet cocky guy she's stuck with - is only causing her problems.

This was an interesting book that definitely had lots of deeper themes below the dystopian surface. It dealt with heavy topics like finding yourself, love, life versus living, and believing in yourself and others. The characters were somewhat unique, although mostly stereotypical. The relationship between Decca and Leo was predictable, although I did enjoy their interactions with each other. The plot was intriguing, but the dystopian world full of teenage death via savage games for entertainment wasn't anything super original. The writing was solid and had a great pace throughout the book. The ending left some questions unanswered, which will serve as a great jumping off point for the next installment. Overall, this was a good book and fans of YA science fiction/dystopian fiction will enjoy.

I Am Alive Born This Way 1 eBook Cameron Jace Reviews

Ok, I know it seems like I've been handing out all kind of 5 stars today but that's only because I've been reviewing books by Cameron Jace and he is one of my favorite authors. Now, as far as "I Am Alive", it was simply fantastic!
Deccan Tenderstone lived in the U.S. of the future. In her dystopian America, all teens are assigned a rank between 1 and 10. No one has ever been ranked a 10. Anyone ranked below a 5 gets killed. Decca is determined to survive. When the unexpected happens and she is ranked as an "outrank", Deccan must participate in a Hunger Games style reality show called "The Monster Show". All the outranked teens must compete against each other and the obstacles the game makers have come up with. Every 6 hours, they must be able to shout out, "I AM ALIVE! If they are unwilling or unable, they die. The last man standing, if there is one, will be given the coveted rank of 10.
The characters were well written and the story was exciting all the way through. It also dealt with themes like love, finding yourself, believing in yourself and others, and in showing compassion. I can't wait till book 2 comes out!
This is a YA novel that I got for free on . It wasn't a bad book, I did finish the whole thing, but it just wasn't super good. The usual, it's the future, everyone has something that's like a smartphone called the iam only it monitors you your whole life and when youre sixteen or 18 i forget you get put into a numbered category. anything less than a five is labeled a monster and there is a giant reality show broadcast to the whole land where the monster kids ploay in games and kill each other and get killed. at the end only one, or usually none, survive. no one has so far ever survived. it's very hunger games, and now that i've read after this, also divergent. it's kind of like those movies where they spoof all the other movies in the genre by taking a little from this or that. it's just not original. i did finish it all but at the cliffhanger ending, i had no desire to read the next book. the characters are kind of annoying too. i like how it made fun of tv and stuff but in the end it was just ok.
You've done it to me again; got me hooked on another one of your wild heroines and their outrageous worlds. I didn't expect this book to pull me in as much as it has and now I'm pissed because not only do I have to buy the next book because I want to find out what happens (I got this one for free), but because I now have to wait until it becomes available. I will be waiting. Until then, I guess I'll review the book.
Decca lives in a society where you are either a monster or you are not. That is what it comes down to. Of course everyone who isn't a monster is ranked based on beauty and personality, but people are most concerned with monsters. Monsters are rebels, outcasts, introverts, basically anyone who questions the leaders. She decides to enter the monster games to find her best friend Woo and meets Leo, the silent boy who knows how to compete in the games better than the rest of them. Decca discovers more about herself, society, and the so-called monsters as they advance through the game. Near the end, the game becomes something more than just trying to survive until the end and go back into society; Decca will get to find out whether she is the biggest monster of them all.
If you are a Cameron Jace fan, you should love this book and everything about it. It is reminiscent of the Insanity series with a similar heroine in a different world. If this is your first Cameron Jace novel and you like YA novels with a wild heroine trying to fight for her life, prepare to be hooked.
